Security Breach in Lok Sabha – Indian Parliament Attack 13 December 2023

A major security breach occurred in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, coinciding with the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack. This attack in 2001 led to the death of nine people, including eight security personnel, and left India in shock. The recent breach involved a person jumping from the visitors’ gallery into the chamber, while another person stayed in the gallery. Both released canisters emitting yellow smoke. Videos online show the intruder evading capture by jumping over desks before being cornered by MPs.

The Parliament Attack incident has raised concerns among lawmakers about the breach’s potential toxicity. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, has announced a thorough investigation into the matter. This security breach occurred after a threat from Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who vowed to target Parliament on this specific day. Delhi Police were put on high alert following his threat.

In a related development, two individuals, a man and a woman, were detained outside Parliament with colored smoke canisters that exploded, emitting red and yellow smoke. Delhi Police sources suggest a likely connection between these incidents. The detained individuals have been identified as Amol Shinde, 25, and Neelam, 42. The investigation is ongoing for today’s Parliament Attack.
