Death by Shawarma – 19 year old boy dies after eating Shawarma

Two street food vendors have been arrested after a 19-year-old man died from consuming ‘chicken shawarma’ bought from their stall in Mumbai. According to an official, the victim, identified as Prathamesh Bhokse, purchased the food from the accused vendors in Trombay on May 3.

On May 4, Bhokse experienced severe stomach pain and vomiting, prompting him to seek medical treatment at a nearby municipal hospital. After returning home, his condition worsened, leading his family to rush him to KEM Hospital on May 5.

Initially, a doctor at KEM Hospital treated Bhokse and discharged him. However, as his condition deteriorated further the next day, he was readmitted to the hospital. Hospital authorities reported the case to the police, who registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons under sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) of the Indian Penal Code, as stated by the Trombay police station official.

Sadly, Bhokse did not recover and passed away on Monday. Subsequently, the police arrested the two vendors, Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh, charging them under various IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
