Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 EPIC Debuts at Rs 6.49 lakh, Offers Monthly Subscription at Rs 17,436

Today, Maruti Suzuki unveiled its highly anticipated new Swift 2024, the fourth generation of the popular hatchback, in India. Priced at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the company revealed that it invested Rs 1,450 crore in designing and developing this model. The new Swift will also be available through a monthly subscription package and comes in nine colors with options for both automatic and manual transmission.

The company claims that the new variant is 10% more fuel-efficient for the manual version and 14% more efficient for the automatic one. Over the past twenty years, the Swift has sold over 6.5 million units globally across 169 countries, maintaining its status as a leader in the entry-level segment, which constitutes around 28% of domestic passenger vehicle sales.

According to Takeuchi, Maruti Suzuki’s Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), the hatchback segment accounts for nearly 60% of total hatchback sales, making it crucial for the company to rejuvenate this segment. The investment includes upgrading tools, dyes, and introducing the new Z-Series engine, which is more eco-friendly. Manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat, the Swift will cater to both Indian and overseas markets.

The new Swift comes at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), with a subscription option available at Rs 17,436 per month, covering vehicle registration, maintenance, insurance, and roadside assistance.

In terms of design, the fourth-gen Swift retains its iconic look while incorporating evolutionary changes such as angular headlights, a revised grille, and updated tail lamps. Inside, it features a new dashboard layout, a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, and updated switchgear for the automatic climate control system.

Maruti Suzuki emphasizes its commitment to sustainability by achieving a 12% reduction in emissions with the new 1.2-liter Z-Series petrol engine. Safety features include six airbags as standard across all variants and 3-point seat belts for all seats.

The new Swift offers five trim options (LXi, VXi, VXi(O), ZXi, and ZXi(O)) and an AMT option from the VXi trim onwards. It is powered by Suzuki’s new 1.2-liter, three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine, with both manual and automated manual transmission options available.

Comparing with rivals, the 2024 Swift competes with micro-SUVs like Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter in terms of pricing, with prices starting from Rs 6.13 lakh (ex-showroom). With its legacy of around 3 million units sold since its introduction in India, the Swift remains a strong player in the hatchback segment, offering style, performance, and affordability.
